Solo Exhibition - Cultivator at Bray Grove Farm
Sunday, September 23, 2018, 2-5pm. Please rsvp.
Cultivator is pleased to present an exhibition by local artist, Margie Glass Sula during Bray Grove Farm's Autumn Farm Day. Her outdoor installation, Elements, showcases her sensitivity to nature, as her sculptural forms create interactions with materials relevant to Bray Grove Farm. Fallen branches, strands of hair shed from our mules, eggshells from our ducks, and soil slowly handmade into clay, are among the elements the artist thoughtfully applies to her sculptures. Sited throughout the farm, we look forward to experiencing her art and its conversation with the land.
Margie Glass Sula writes: My work explores the quiet and strange simplicity of our natural world. I convey my sentiments through visual interpretations of natural forms by using a subtle application of color, unique abstraction, and a delicate touch. Through this, coupled with innate human curiosity, my work allows me to reintroduce the necessary link to the natural world that often dissipates as our human lives progress and become ever so complex.
I intend for my visual creations to counter the current onslaught of hurried visuals, increasingly limited attention spans, and ugliness that our society tends to create and focus on.
Sometimes, I feel we all need to get back down to Earth- even if only for a moment.
She describes the sculptural pieces in Elements: Simple basic, elemental things that relate to life, and the earth and farm, through materials and forms- discarded branches that once provided shade, tie wire that held hay bales together, the clay from the soil, the winter hair that protected the mules, and the egg shells that sustain or bring new life.
Please rsvp and join us on Sunday, September 23rd from 2-5pm for art and conversation along with a tour of the farm. Bray Grove Farm is located 70 miles southwest of Chicago in Grundy County. To confirm your attendance and receive directions and parking information, email.
